About John Mancoll
John Mancoll is a plastic surgeon with years of experience in the industry. He’s currently based in Virginia Beach and specializes in cosmetic surgery, body contouring, reconstructive surgery, breast surgery, and DIEP flap breast reconstruction. Over the years, John Mancoll’s research has been published in several journals, showcasing his understanding and experience.
Most plastic surgeons have a specialty they are proud of, and John Mancoll is no exception. His work generally focuses on breast and body surgery. Throughout his career, John Mancoll has performed over five thousand breast reconstruction cases, with a specialty in DIEP flap reconstruction. In particular, John Mancoll is semi-famous for his ability to do such a surgery (safely) within four hours. This may not sound like much, but such a timetable ensures that patients can be back in the comfort of their homes the following day. When it comes to recovery, this makes a significant difference.
To get to where he is today, John Mancoll first attended to his education. For his undergraduate degree, Mancoll headed to Guilford College. Here he earned a Bachelor of Science (1986). During his time at Guilford, Mancoll joined several societies, served on the Honor Roll, and earned the Student Leadership Award. Upon graduation, John Mancoll attended the Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he earned his Medical Degree. Knowing that this experience would be foundational to his career, Mancoll had several clerkships, primarily those in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, and basic science. Once again, he won the Student Leadership Award and earned several scholarships.
Anyone in the medical industry will tell you that it comes with a lifelong commitment to learning. This is because best practices change as new advancements are made. John Mancoll has always strived to stay on top of the latest trends and developments in plastic surgery, and it shows. One way John Mancoll stays updated in the industry is by being actively involved in several organizations. As such, he is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
When it comes to patient care, John Mancoll always goes above and beyond. Dr. Mancoll is proud of the level of care he provides his patients, knowing he spent time educating them about their surgery and choices. It’s important to remember that preparing patients for their surgery is only part of the job. One must also care for them post-surgery, answering any questions or concerns that may arise. Mancoll takes this to heart, as he treats his patients as part of an extended family.
As John Mancoll is so specialized in his field, he works hard to share his knowledge and expertise with the world. In other words, he has been involved in countless publications, journals, and presentations. He has also made several appearances on television (primarily Healthline on PBS). Some highlights include “The Effects of Tamoxifen on Wound Healing.
Wound Repair and Regeneration” (Lewis, B.K., Mancoll, J.S., Colen, L., Perry, R) and pH Monitoring of Free Flap (for Microsurgical Research Council Annual Meeting, 1990).
